GSCA Service Project 2014- 2015………Kendall’s Krusade

This year, the GSCA Service Project is Kendall’s Krusade, in honor of Tanyika M. Butler, an active GSCA member who has served as Middle School Worksetting VP (2013- 2014) and Region 3 Chair (2012- 2013 & 2011- 2012).

The mission of Kendall’s Krusade is to increase autism awareness, one person at a time. In addition to her work with GSCA, Tanyika is passionate about educating others across the state about autism. In 2002, her then-18 month old daughter Kendall was diagnosed with autism.

After enduring challenges ranging from scrutiny of her daughter in public to finding childcare with personnel trained to support special needs children, she realized there was a need for those involved to help educate others and to be advocates for children on the autism spectrum like her daughter.

Tanyika began sharing her autism journey with others and using her voice for the families of children on the autism spectrum to help increase awareness. Her crusade for Kendall became a Krusade for all children with autism spectrum disorder.

An autism diagnosis is not the end of the world, as we know it. It’s a journey into a new world, a different world, and full of wonder, frustration, joy, sadness, patience and love. It’s not easy but it’s worth it!

Kendall’s Krusade participates in the annual Georgia Autism Walk. Please consider making a generous donation towards their team, Kendall’s Krusaders. All donations collected from GSCA will be forwarded to Georgia Autism Speaks. A child with autism will leave footprints across your heart!

Tanyika is the proud wife and mother of two wonderful children, a 14 year old son Julian and a 13 year old daughter Kendall. Her husband Rich said, “I am in awe of love she gives and the strength and power she shows in raising our wonderful children while touching the lives of countless others as a counselor."

Tanyika will be presenting at fall conference. Also you can follow their autism journey at To donate or particiapte in the walk, please click here:

Our service project is aligned with this year’s theme, School Counselors: A Voice for Students.
