Effective and engaging school counseling core curriculum lessons give school counselors the biggest bang for the buck because they reach and affect all students. They also provide the opportunity to raise the visibility and highlight the effectiveness of your school counseling program. Learn how to develop and deliver meaningful, developmentally appropriate lessons that result in changes in student understanding and outcomes. Explore how to begin with the end in mind by using the backward design lesson development process to identify desired results, determine assessment evidence using perception and outcome data and plan quality learning experiences and instructional practices.
Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:

  1. Summarize the backward design process of lesson development
  2. Describe characteristics of meaningful lessons and quality instructional practices
  3. Identify and prioritize lesson topics to address the specific needs of their student population
  4. Identify relevant perception and outcome data sources for measuring lesson effectiveness
  5. Use the RAMP rubric and lesson plan template to develop clear and effective lessons that meet RAMP requirements

Rebecca Lallier is a school counselor at Dothan Brook School in White River Junction, Vt., and a 2017 School Counselor of the Year finalist. Lallier, a graduate of Johnson State College and Plymouth State University, has been a school counselor for 20 years. Dothan Brook is one of just five preK–12 schools in the country to be recognized as a RAMP School of Distinction by the American School Counselor Association for the program she built.
